Several members of the BBC congregation sponsor children through Compassion International. Here is one report shared by a BBC sponsor:
I am Mario Alexander Benitez. I am the Project Director of the Child Development Center attended by your sponsored child, at the Iglesia Evangelica Centroamericana Monte de Sion located in Cañaveral, San Francisco de Yojoa, Cortes, Honduras.
Thank you for sponsoring a child.
One child joined the program at the early age of 5. Nine years later, he was diagnosed with a lymphoma in his right leg. He went through two surgeries. They biopsied the lymph sample and the result showed it was a severe cancer. He had 35 radiation and 25 chemotherapy treatments. The center supported him with the expenses of his transportation to the hospital, his nutrition and part of his treatment.
He never stopped attending the church and the center except when he had his medical appointments. He never lost faith that God was able to heal him. The miracle he was waiting happened last year. The physicians confirmed he was completely healed.
Nowadays he has a normal life, he continues studying at school. He’s smart, and has the ability to fix electronic appliances, work with metallic structures, and he likes handicrafts. In his spare time, he works repairing shoes to earn money to help his family. His life is an example of strength, persistence and courage.
I would like to share with you some of the results that we have had in the lives of many children. There are several children that used to show aggressive behavior in class. They were disrespectful to their tutors and classmates. They didn’t show any kind of interest when they were doing their classwork. Through personalized attention and counseling, these children have grown comprehensively. Now they participate in class. They are respectful to their tutors and their classmates and they also do their work on time.
By using Complementary Intervention funds, five youth have been benefited with scholarships that make it easier for them to get academic and vocational training.
During this year, the center received a gift to build a sink to wash dishes. This gift has benefited our children in a great way because their short meal is now prepared in a more hygienic and spacious place which allows us to serve more children faster.
The special programs or activities have been unforgettable experiences for them as we have heard from their parents. We have carried out camps, retreats, educational tours and there is no doubt that this has left an impression in our children and youth.
We are very grateful to God because we have a sponsorship program like this in our community. Thanks to all this our children have received school benefits, Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, dental and medical treatments, Christian education among others blessings.
The relationship between children and sponsor through letters has been an aspect that vitalizes the participation of children at the center. Children look forward to receiving mail. When they read the letters they are so happy and they gladly answer their letters. Both the children and the family feel happy to have somebody to give them such precious support.
This work really satisfies me and teaches me a lot because each child is a different story. I hope to be somebody to write a chapter of hope and desire of improvement in their lives, just like the sponsors are doing.
We thank you so much and at the same time I want to tell you that we are praying for you and your family. We ask you to pray for the 177 children registered in our program
Thanks, again, for sponsoring a child.
May the peace of God be with you,
Mario Alexander Benites
