What a joyous day! Everyone was excited and all you could hear was Happy Mothers Day as people greeted each other before church and during the Meet and Greet. There was a beautiful arrangement of colorful flowers on the alter table, placed there by the Ruth Walden Circle for the special day.
There was almost a musical theme when we sang the hymns, "This is the Day" and "The Lily of the Valley," followed by the contemporary song, "Today Is The Day."
We were blessed to again have Pastor Lynn with us today and he began his sermon by expressing how he was unqualified to know what it meant to be a mother. His message entitled "God Cares For Us," although non-traditional, was motivational about how God cares with love like to that of mothers. There were six distinct messages, taken from the verses of Psalm 139.
What a wonderful day it was! The church was filled with moms and grandmothers and even a few great-grandmothers too. The Shades of Grace started the service with a rendition of "My Mother's Bible." Later, the children performed "I Can Count On God" under the leadership of Ms. Hollie.
After announcements, a brief update on mission work in India was given by Dr. Sayne who came by along with D.B. Cooper
Dr. Lynn Hardaway gave out three gift cards to the winning ladies in the treasuring hunting Purse Challenge. What great fun as he'd call out an item and the ladies would scurry through their purses and bags to produce the required item!
The sermon focused on Jochabed, the mother of Moses, highlighting the heartfelt challenges she faced when placing her baby boy in a basket set adrift on the river. How that mother's heart must have ached to see her child raised by another, knowing it was the only way to protect and preserve his life. Dr. Hardaway encouraged mothers to never give up praying for their children.
At the conclusion of the service the Luta Tebault Circle presented all the mothers with a memento to remember the day.
