This past week the Music Dept. met with Pastor Lynn to discuss making a few changes in the flow of the worship service. Today we started with a few of those. In recent weeks we have begun putting the words to hymns on the wall to give people the option of not using the hymn book. Yes, many churches have been doing this for years now, but not BBC so this is quite a change for our country church. Today we had ALL the hymns on our program up on the wall, rather than just the contemporary song and doxology!
We also had the Praise Team lead all the hymns instead of just the contemporary. It was very nice hearing harmony on the classic hymns. The old walls of the sanctuary seemed to resonate with the sounds of glory to God! I do believe the congregation sang a little louder (or that may have been due to the large - over 100 - crowd on hand). Whatever the reason it was magnificent!
The order of service had been tweaked a bit too. Announcements were not read to us, although reminders of upcoming events were emphasized by the pastor just before he gave the sermon. It remains to be seen whether the congregation liked the changes. Things went a little smoother, other than when a sound system issue caused delay while they frantically looked for a lost computer file.
Today's sermon, "Yes, You Can!" was the 2nd in Pastor Lynn's "Unbeatable" series based on Joshua. He reminded us to Choose to Live in the Spirit (presented last week). The emphasis today was that living in the Spirit can lead to worshiping, giving, and ministering.
Today was also very special because Miss Mariah Smith. age 22, came to tell us about the Blankets For the Homeless organization that she started five years ago. BBC has been collecting blankets and other items for donation since the beginning of November.
This great Sunday service everyone singing "How Great Is Our God" which set the mood perfectly, for we have come to worship our King and Savior, Jesus. After the announcements Pastor Lynn presented our special music by playing his guitar and singing "Who Killed Jesus" for us! What a treat and what a great message in song! Thank you Dr. Hardaway!!
Our sermon was on Peacemakers from Matthew 5:9, and about us, as Christians, planting seeds of peace. The line to remember was, "Never underestimate the power of a seed" -- a seed that's been planted, a seed of peace, a seed of a word of love. The message was very inspirational. We're to be Peacemakers, not Power Mongers.
(We had a few techno difficulties this morning so today's audio was recorded via "the best backup plan" we have in place, a little hand-held recorder. It's not as clear as the regular sound system, but will do in a pinch and today was a pinch).
The kids headed out to Ocean Breeze Water Park after church. They have a great day for it. We're sure a cool dip will be exhilarating on this hot day!
Today was the end of our mission project of collecting migrant health kit items and the beginning of our new project - school supplies, which will go through the whole month of August. This is for anybody to do, not just our WMU ladies! We had an awesome response on the previous project and hope to do even more in August!
BBC is a warm and welcoming family of like-minded believers who come together to worship our amazing God. Since 1774 BBC has served the Blackwater community and while steeped in tradition we also blend in a bit of contemporary to transition to an exciting future. We'd love to have you join us!
