Sunday was so eventful it was hard to keep up without a program! It was a time to celebrate Independence Day, so we had some good ol' patriotic singing. You just gotta love that Lee Greenwood "God Bless The USA." BBC sings that with such gusto, just like the little all-American farming community that it is!
It was also Vacation Bible School Recognition Day, so we got to enjoy the kids singing and sharing some songs they had learned during the week of VBS. Kids singing is always such a treat! They are so cute!
And it was also Communion Sunday. I like when we take those special moments to really calm ourselves and 'talk' with God a moment, and to be able to reflect on the woulda, shoulda, and coulda things that often occur in our lives. Where would we be without God's Mercy and Grace towards us, His wayward children?
We're so blessed to live in a free land, blessed to see little children who are learning about Jesus, and blessed to have an awesome God who loves us every minute of our lives.
Don't you just love being in a little country church for Independence Day celebrations? It's like the real nitty-gritty down-home America feeling all in one room. All the little towns with all their little churches and stores and everything else are what make our country the greatest place on earth! Haven't we been blessed so incredibly much by God to be privileged to live here? Our prayer is that the good people of our land will remember and turn to God, and not forsake Him.
Sunday morning found folks at BBC saying the Pledge Of Allegiance and singing America The Beautiful. The Shades of Grace opened the service by asking the congregation to help sing the special -- My Country Tis of Thee. Doesn't that say it all? Such a beautiful song.
We also sang our traditional God Bless The U.S.A. which almost became a test of sorts. Oops, we forgot to tell our sound guy it was on the agenda so the singing began without the words on the wall. Luckily enough folks knew enough that there was no problem!
With the busy Friday past in our nation's history Dr. Lynn Hardaway addressed a few key elements and during the "How To Be Happy According To Jesus" message reminded our congregation to "remain calm and to trust in God, that nothing was happening that God didn't already know about. " It was just the right reminder to hear. As nationally, things seem to be changing rapidly, we do need to keep our attention on God, no matter what the circumstances.
BBC is a warm and welcoming family of like-minded believers who come together to worship our amazing God. Since 1774 BBC has served the Blackwater community and while steeped in tradition we also blend in a bit of contemporary to transition to an exciting future. We'd love to have you join us!
