Sunday was so eventful it was hard to keep up without a program! It was a time to celebrate Independence Day, so we had some good ol' patriotic singing. You just gotta love that Lee Greenwood "God Bless The USA." BBC sings that with such gusto, just like the little all-American farming community that it is!
It was also Vacation Bible School Recognition Day, so we got to enjoy the kids singing and sharing some songs they had learned during the week of VBS. Kids singing is always such a treat! They are so cute!
And it was also Communion Sunday. I like when we take those special moments to really calm ourselves and 'talk' with God a moment, and to be able to reflect on the woulda, shoulda, and coulda things that often occur in our lives. Where would we be without God's Mercy and Grace towards us, His wayward children?
We're so blessed to live in a free land, blessed to see little children who are learning about Jesus, and blessed to have an awesome God who loves us every minute of our lives.
I love the exciting in-between time when Sunday School classes let out and worship is yet to begin. As folks filter into the sanctuary from the classrooms it's nice to see who has arrived for worship and is already seated in the pews. Today it seemed like everyone was pumped. There was a lot of chatter going on. We ran only a few minutes behind as we waited for the stragglers to be seated.
Pastor Lynn began with prayer requests. BBC was happy to hear that William is home from Duke and we continue praying for his recovery. After prayer the Congregation sang "Indescribable" followed by a second time of greetings and then a rousing "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart." You just gotta love Ms Debbie as she leads the hymns, sometimes asking the men to sing, sometimes the ladies. You have to watch her though, because you never know when she might hold a note out!
Our Sound Guy had a rough moment as he tried to move the projector during the Offering; Satan jumped in, knocking over a whole bunch of CDs and more. Sound Guy never missed a beat and scooped everything up in time for the Joyful Noise Choir performance of "He Touched Me." Beautiful job, Choir! Unfortunately we missed recording it on two fronts.
Pastor Lynn brought us another message on Church Values based on Acts 2. Some of those values include:
Following the Invitation two ladies came forth to accept Jesus! It's so exciting to see folks come to Jesus!
We observed Communion after worship, having postponed it from last week when Pastor Lynn was out of town. It was a beautiful time especially as Thanksgiving comes closer.
Today was a happy day. It just seemed like everyone was so upbeat this morning. We actually started the worship service a little late because everyone was just buzzing around greeting each other... it was really cool! The happy vibe kept going as together we sang our contemporary congregational song Sweetly Broken. Then we added a twist to our first hymn Brethren, We Have Met to Worship with all the men singing the 'brethren' verse followed with the women singing the 'sister' verse.
When Pastor Lynn began his message it was a continuation of his "How To Be Happy According to Jesus" sermon of last Sunday. The perfect message for a perfect day.
The message ended, our service went into observation of the Lord's Supper. We usually do that on the first Sundays of each month. Deacons took it on the road afterwards and served Communion to various shut-ins. Our elderly members always appreciate this so much.
As we left to face the week ahead we can only hope, as we grow in the love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we will be given opportunity to share Him with others in the coming days.
BBC is a warm and welcoming family of like-minded believers who come together to worship our amazing God. Since 1774 BBC has served the Blackwater community and while steeped in tradition we also blend in a bit of contemporary to transition to an exciting future. We'd love to have you join us!
