What an extra exciting day at church! The church was filled in anticipation of voting for a new pastor. Before worship and during Greetings of Peace it was alive as folks spoke and hugged each other. It reminded some of 'old times' when the church used to be filled every Sunday.
Together we sang "I Will Follow" and then sang "I Love To Tell The Story." The Shades of Grace sang "God You Reign" reminding all whose total decision it was regarding our next pastor and the decision to be made.
Dr. Hardaway gave a wonderful sermon on Cliff-Climbers, facing challenges that would stop most. But we have God to rely on and through faith face and even seek outside of our comfort zones to share God's word and do His will.
After the message, as "Holy Spirit" played softly several people came up to join the membership of BBC (most having already been baptized). We welcomed Tanya, Meadow, Emily, Brittany, Bobby, Lynn, David, Dave and Angelica. How exciting - the whole church came up to welcome them!
Once resettled we began the business of voting. It didn't take long to wait and soon someone went to bring in Dr. Lynn Hardaway and his family for the good news. The congregation gave them a big Blackwater welcome as only we can do! So it's official now. We are so blessed that God has chosen to bring Pastor Lynn to our little country church and look forward to a long and rewarding time of service and commitment to reaching others for Christ's kingdom.
(Thank you to the Pastor Search Committee for a job well done)!
We had another great Sunday of worship and fellowship. Guest speaker Larry Smith brought us the worship message on "P.U.S.H. Pray Until Something Happens." God wants his children to be happy so we should expect things to happen, expect God's blessings. Rev. Smith says that prayer is the key to our success and our way to communicate with God. We should spend time in prayer every day.
This encouraging message on prayer came at great time in the life of BBC. The Pastor Search Committee announced today, that after conducting due process and a formal interview, they are proposing Dr. Lynn Hardaway to fill the role of Pastor and presenting him for a formal vote to Blackwater Baptist Church.
We need to be praying that God's Will is put into action, and not that of individual preferences. It is His Will alone that church members should be focused on at this critical time.
On September 27 a proposed contract will be handed out so the Church can review what would be expected of Dr. Hardaway as pastor. A "Meet & Greet" with Pastor Hardaway and his family will be held Saturday, October 3rd at 7 p.m to give folks a chance to learn more about Pastor Hardaway and hear more about why he feels called to our church. Finally, on Sunday, October 4th, there will be a Special Called Business Meeting after church for members to vote by ballot on the proposed candidate. Members who cannot attend may request an absentee ballot. All ballots must be submitted before the formal vote is taken that Sunday morning.
Such a great Sunday! It started with prayer and ended with prayer! In between was jam-packed, beginning with the congregation singing "How Can I Keep From Singing" and general announcements about all the good things to come
He then brought us a great message on "How To Be Happy According to Jesus" (See the 2015 Sermon page to hear it).
After church there was a Vacation Bible School organizational meeting. VBS is so important in children's lives. It's a great community outreach. I have wonderful memories myself from when I attended VBS "back in the day." It takes a lot of planning, dedication, and work to provide a week of fun, creative teaching about Jesus! We're so blessed to have people who care passionately about our local children!
At 6pm the fellowship meal began in the social hall. At 6:30 the business meeting began, running until 8pm. There were progress reports and lots of discussions on a variety of topics, from revamping the By-Laws to having another Blood Drive (yes)! After all was said and done Pastor Lynn closed in prayer and we headed home.
What a great day it was, to be in God's house, surrounded by loving extended Christian family!
BBC is a warm and welcoming family of like-minded believers who come together to worship our amazing God. Since 1774 BBC has served the Blackwater community and while steeped in tradition we also blend in a bit of contemporary to transition to an exciting future. We'd love to have you join us!
