Our day began on a sad note when we learned that our dear sweet Gloria Whitehurst has graduated to be in the presence of our dear Lord. A member of Blackwater her entire life, God blessed us with her dynamic piano skills for over 40 years. The number of lives she touched can hardly be counted. She truly embodied Proverbs 16:32a - "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty" because she hardly ever had a harsh word or thought towards anyone. She will be sorely missed.
We also learned that Pat W. lost a cousin early Sunday morning and that Ms Chrystal F.'s brother-in-law had passed earlier in the week. So many families are experiencing loss and grief. We ask everyone to pray for God's peace during their time of sorrow.
The Joyful Noise Choir gave their 2nd performance of the new church year, singing "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus." Beautifully done, the dedicated participants really enjoy singing the 'old' songs. The BBC congregation seems to never tire of hearing the great classic hymns many have grown up with.
After Dr. Hardaway's message the invitation was sung. Four children who were recently Baptized came forward, requesting membership into the BBC family. A resounding "Amen" by the congregants was the expressed vote and welcome. Congratulations to Jack, Wyatt, Grace, and Emily!!
Things are moving along at BBC with regards to the pastor search. Last week's announcement by the Pastor Search Committee that Dr. Lynn Hardaway was being proposed as candidate led to a potential contract to be handed out today. Now everyone knows what BBC is expecting and looking forward to. Absentee ballots were dispensed to those members who will not be able to attend next Sunday's vote, being held after church. But before we get to that there will be a Meet and Greet on Saturday night at 7pm to meet with the Hardaway family and ask any final questions the congregation may have.
Please pray for God's perfect will for our church.
You can tell the seasons are starting to change. It makes everything feel fresh again. Sometimes we need to get that same feeling with God.
Sometimes we'll get to that place where we start feeling unlovable. That's when Satan starts to poke at us with his lies that we're not good enough for God. We might think this for a variety of reasons like doing something we know we shouldn't have done, or not being as nice as we should to someone. Satan uses those moments to work on us.
But God's all about just loving us, even while knowing that we sin. He is in the forgiving business. It's the whole reason He sent His Son, Jesus who took our sins on Himself, past, present, and future, and went to the cross with them.
So when you start feeling like you've dropped so low God would never even look at you, go get a fresh feeling again by praying through your pain and simply ask Him for His forgiveness. Then believe He has forgiven you, because it's true.
We had another great Sunday of worship and fellowship. Guest speaker Larry Smith brought us the worship message on "P.U.S.H. Pray Until Something Happens." God wants his children to be happy so we should expect things to happen, expect God's blessings. Rev. Smith says that prayer is the key to our success and our way to communicate with God. We should spend time in prayer every day.
This encouraging message on prayer came at great time in the life of BBC. The Pastor Search Committee announced today, that after conducting due process and a formal interview, they are proposing Dr. Lynn Hardaway to fill the role of Pastor and presenting him for a formal vote to Blackwater Baptist Church.
We need to be praying that God's Will is put into action, and not that of individual preferences. It is His Will alone that church members should be focused on at this critical time.
On September 27 a proposed contract will be handed out so the Church can review what would be expected of Dr. Hardaway as pastor. A "Meet & Greet" with Pastor Hardaway and his family will be held Saturday, October 3rd at 7 p.m to give folks a chance to learn more about Pastor Hardaway and hear more about why he feels called to our church. Finally, on Sunday, October 4th, there will be a Special Called Business Meeting after church for members to vote by ballot on the proposed candidate. Members who cannot attend may request an absentee ballot. All ballots must be submitted before the formal vote is taken that Sunday morning.
What a super day! Our worship service began prayer requests and prayer, an upbeat congregational contemporary hymn, and then a video from special guest, Pastor Wold Zemedkun, of Emmanuel Ethopian Amharic Baptist Church. The video showed us first hand how drilling water wells in Ethiopia can change lives. BBC then presented him with a check for $2,500 to help create another well. ($2,500 can buy ¼ of a well).
Pastor Lynn Hardaway gave us a wonderful message on "Yard Sale Christians," the 2nd in the First Things First series. Afterwards we had Communion together, which had been delayed from the previous week.
The weather cooperated for the Annual Church Picnic right after the worship service. Fried chicken and tons of side dishes and desserts were enjoyed by all, from our oldest at 92 to the youngest who was just 13 days old. Can it get any better?
Why, yes, it can! Why not be part of it? See you next Sunday!!
The Joyful Noise Choir came together during the greetings and soon gave their first performance of the season, singing the beloved "How Great Thou Art" accapella. It was a full choir loft with almost 20 people singing to God's glory, I might add!
Our guest speaker today was Alex Zabel, who brought us a terrific message titled "Your Purpose." He ended by telling us to 1) Pray for opportunities to share the gospel; 2) Look for opportunities to share the gospel; and 3) Just do it! You can hear the entire sermon @ 2015 Sermons
It's never too late to start attending church. If you were not able to attend today, we'll look for you next week!
BBC is a warm and welcoming family of like-minded believers who come together to worship our amazing God. Since 1774 BBC has served the Blackwater community and while steeped in tradition we also blend in a bit of contemporary to transition to an exciting future. We'd love to have you join us!
