We've just finished our children's Vacation Bible School week. What a wonderful annual event this is! Our biggest community outreach of the year! We started doing it in the evenings several years ago when it was just way too hot for days. To compensate for not having it during the day there's now an additional Saturday commencement and party. Whole families come out and as they say, "a good time was had by all!"
Sunday morning found the kids opening up the service with songs they had learned during VBS. It's always a treat to see the little ones perform!
You can see some photos from the exciting week at http://www.blackwaterbaptist.org/vbs.html and there are even more on our Facebook page!
Fathers Day came to this morning. The service began with special music by the Shades of Grace singing "Your Love Is Extravagant" not just for fathers, but to our Heavenly Father. The words said it all, expressing the love and care He and our own earthly Dads have shown to their children. How blessed we are when we have Godly men in our lives and a Heavenly Father who loves us so much!
Ms. Sylvia was back at the piano today and we sang the traditional hymns, Faith of Our Fathers and This Is My Father's World.
Unfortunately we were unable to record today's sermon; all the more reason to come to church each Sunday morning at 10:00am to hear the messages in person and to fellowship with the good people of BBC. We have a place saved just for you!
We were light in numbers this Lord's Day, but we were filled with spirit. Many were missing from the pews today, vacation, illness, and for other reasons including the heat. It's like that in summer.
Our first two musical selections were coincidentally in the same vein, setting the mood with the contemporary congregational Made To Worship and hymn O Worship The King.
Dr. Lynn Hardaway brought us the third in the "How To Be Happy According To Jesus" series. Today's focus was "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount with passages about Mary, who upon being told she would give birth to our Savior gave up control of her life to do God's will; and about Job who experiences huge changes in his life's chosen path. Both, in all meekness did what we all should - relax our own control and will to letting God take over in His Perfect Way. There was way more than is expressed here. Do take a moment to listen for yourself on our Sermon page.
Today was a happy day. It just seemed like everyone was so upbeat this morning. We actually started the worship service a little late because everyone was just buzzing around greeting each other... it was really cool! The happy vibe kept going as together we sang our contemporary congregational song Sweetly Broken. Then we added a twist to our first hymn Brethren, We Have Met to Worship with all the men singing the 'brethren' verse followed with the women singing the 'sister' verse.
When Pastor Lynn began his message it was a continuation of his "How To Be Happy According to Jesus" sermon of last Sunday. The perfect message for a perfect day.
The message ended, our service went into observation of the Lord's Supper. We usually do that on the first Sundays of each month. Deacons took it on the road afterwards and served Communion to various shut-ins. Our elderly members always appreciate this so much.
As we left to face the week ahead we can only hope, as we grow in the love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we will be given opportunity to share Him with others in the coming days.
