What a busy weekend! The Strawberry Festival is going on which usually means a drop in attendance as folks head to Pungo or off to vacation. We might have had a smaller crowd today, but we were mighty in spirit!
Pastor Lynn started our service with an update on their move to our community. Things are going slowly but surely. They were blessed to get a contract on their old home on the same day they closed on the new one. Isn't God just grand?! Sometimes, we just never know how His master plan is going to work out until we see it!
The sermon was Praying With Purpose and followed the example found in Joshua 9-10.
Several key phrases stuck out with this writer:
Following the Invitation Pastor Lynn invited those who had requested prayer to come to the alter to pray to God. What an outpouring of the Holy Spirit! It's so awesome to see Him working with His Children!!
You're invited to be part of the Family of God!
Just one day a week.... that's all it takes... and not even a whole day, just a couple of hours at most. It's not much for God to ask of us... to take time out of our busy schedules to stop and devote a few moments to Him.
I love this one day a week. It's a chance to get together with other 'like-minded' people who are learning about God; His son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It means we're not alone in our quest with God because they are also on a quest with God. None of us are better than anyone else; there's nothing particularly special about us. It's just that we go to church on Sunday mornings. We don't sleep in, or go fishing, or sit around with our coffee and newspaper. All of those things come at other times. Sunday morning is devoted time, when we make an extra effort to get up and get going for God. That's the whole point. That's the only point.
It's not to see who's wearing what, or who sings the best or worse, or who does more or who does nothing at all except come out for an hour (give or take). It's not about who gives more money than anyone else. It's not like that at all. It's simply about you and God, you believing in God, you thanking Him, you asking Him, you praising Him, you listening to Him.
If you haven't been to church in a while why not plan on going to one next Sunday... just an hour... isn't it the least you can give Him?
What a joyous day! Everyone was excited and all you could hear was Happy Mothers Day as people greeted each other before church and during the Meet and Greet. There was a beautiful arrangement of colorful flowers on the alter table, placed there by the Ruth Walden Circle for the special day.
There was almost a musical theme when we sang the hymns, "This is the Day" and "The Lily of the Valley," followed by the contemporary song, "Today Is The Day."
We were blessed to again have Pastor Lynn with us today and he began his sermon by expressing how he was unqualified to know what it meant to be a mother. His message entitled "God Cares For Us," although non-traditional, was motivational about how God cares with love like to that of mothers. There were six distinct messages, taken from the verses of Psalm 139.
BBC had a quiet day with much enthusiasm. We missed Pastor Lynn, who was busy with his other duties, but were greatly blessed to have Jared Laskey bring us a great message.
His sermon was entitled "How To Live You Life Forward" and he presented instructions from God's Word to that end, starting with committing completely to the plan. After asking us to think where we'd like to be in 20 years, he challenged us to write a letter from the Future You to the the Present You.
BBC is a warm and welcoming family of like-minded believers who come together to worship our amazing God. Since 1774 BBC has served the Blackwater community and while steeped in tradition we also blend in a bit of contemporary to transition to an exciting future. We'd love to have you join us!
